20 WAYS TO BE MORE PRODUCTIVE – Reduce the Fear Factor

Productivity means higher output using your current resources, or achieving the same level of sales with less resource.

Tyranny went out with the dark ages, and controlling by intimidation is no longer an option.  One consideration often overlooked is the office atmosphere.  Management styles, and the working environment strongly influence how people perform. Bullying and harassment in the workplace, whether by managers or colleagues of individuals, are key causes of grievances. This leads to demotivation and ultimately will cost you time and energy repairing, whilst the work suffers.

By getting to know the staff individually, understanding their personalities and characteristics a little, and knowing when they’re having good or bad days and why, will help keep a check on any unpleasantness that may be going on.  Maintaining staff morale will also reflect on how they deal with your clients and customers.

Being aware of your own behavior around staff is essential.  Some individuals are intimidated by boisterous banter, swearing and raised voices all of which are inevitable when the pressure is on in any environment, but in the professional work place a Manager should lay down some ground rules as to what is acceptable, and more importantly what is not.  Make sure all the employees understand that they are each responsible for ensuring the working atmosphere is congenial to maximizing performance.
