Beef Processing Plant

As part of delivering a full business analysis to this meat factory, studies were made of the supervisors’ daily behaviour, monitoring their levels of active supervision, and observing how they planned, monitored and controlled the work flow against the daily and weekly processing requirements.

This analysis was compared with observations in the field of how the employees, the supervisors were responsible for, behaved. The aim was to demonstrate how the lack of active supervision and management impacted on the teams’ productivity and overall factory output.

The studies revealed that active supervision across a number of different supervisory roles was less than 10%. It also showed that the workers under supervision were operating at between 50-60% capacity, demonstrating a significant opportunity to improve the profitability of the organisation.

The results clearly demonstrated the need for leadership development from top to bottom, together with a formalised, structured management system.
