Automotive Manufacturing Plant
Slowing down production to optimise productivity
Improving productivity doesn’t always mean working faster, and this project rewired the client’s understanding of what productivity meant for them. Consulting on and delivering this nine-month programme resulted in key initiatives which actually included slowing down the manufacturing line to improve quality. With operators at each workstation able to take more time, the defect rate reduced by 65%, and average daily production of quality-approved cabs rose from 32 to 54.
Despite this plant being the smallest site for the client – a large US Automobile Corporation – the programme generated an annualised productivity increase of US $625,000.
